This is a post to celebrate and discuss my first exhibition that took place in November of 2017 at Creative Bubble in Swansea. It was a collaborative exhibition with my course mate / fellow Surface Pattern Designer Tiffany Dyke, we came together to create and exhibit feminist work as it is something that we both have a strong interest in and passion for. The exhibition lasted a week, attracting many visitors and giving us connections that could lead us to new opportunities in the future, such as working with the Free The Nipple Zine that is run in Swansea.
The work I produced included hand dyed and printed t-shirts, a photographic zine, illustrations made from a combination of digital/traditional drawing methods and a bright repeat pattern commissioned by social enterprise Proud Pads.
It was really exciting to display our work and see what people thought, especially on our opening night even if we didn't have as much of a turn out as we expected. I think if we were to run another exhibition, which we plan on doing, it would be better to find a space that is closer to the middle of town instead of somewhere that is more out of the way.
In saying this, the exhibition was a success in my opinion. I sold almost all of my t-shirts and had a fair amount of interest in my zines and illustrations. Also, as I previously mentioned, we made connections with Free the Nipple and will be working with them soon.
