As part of my external project for my third year of Surface Pattern Design, I have undertaken different opportunities doing design work that isn't for course projects. One of these opportunities is taking part in starting a denim brand with a student from Cardiff Metropolitan University, Amelia, who put out a post on Facebook asking for anyone who would be interested in designing and making a range of customised mom jeans. I saw the post and dropped her an e-mail because I thought it sounded really interesting and there was an offer of the work being featured in a look book after, which is something I am interested in doing.

After speaking with her and showing her my work, we decided on what theme I would be working with: Witchcraft. I created a mood board for this:

I went for a kind of mystic theme, using pinks and purples as well as black. I want to use metallic elements such as metallic embroidery threads and metallic screen printing binder to create some unique and interesting designs for the brand.

I am currently talking with Amelia about what materials and things I need so that I can start making samples and bringing together a collection of two or three different pairs of customised jeans. I think this project is going to be something different for me and I look forward to seeing where it goes.
